EP Review: Jukebox Junkies
Not to be confused with the US country act of the same name, Jukebox Junkies kick out glam-tinged rock n roll of the fun, unpretentious, sing-along variety, perfect for knocking a few beers back to in a sleazy dive bar somewhere.
Having seen this lot play a highly entertaining live show a few months back, I was definitely looking forward to hearing this record. Sadly though, the recorded output does leave me a little cold. Recording can be a trying experience for the best musicians, and here I think they could spend a little less time aiming for the note-perfect, and a bit more time channeling the passion and fun of the live show in the studio.
Stand out track for me is definitely live favourite Do You Wanna Rock n Roll?, a big ol’ slab of rock n roll fun, seemingly designed solely to put a grin on your face and a beer in your hand. Maybe next time they should have the grinning crowd with them in the studio to perk up the fun factor for the next record.
