Nix’s Banter: “Roller-rocking”
“Wow this weekend was a bit nuts. But fun nuts. You can have fun with nuts, especially if you’re a squirrel.
Pure Rawk went Rollerderby this weekend to support the first ever European Rollergirls Derby organised by the London Rollergirls. You can check out all of the scores and stuff at www.rollbritannia.com and they’ve also got some nice pictures online.
We had our banner flying high at Earls Court just above the scoreboards and we also featured in the programme ads. I also inflicted my musical opinions during Sunday’s LRG bout spinning the likes of Volbeat, Danko Jones and even a bit of Michael Jackson.
We also did the afterparties too – first of which was this Saturday (18th) at The Monarch in Camden. 4 and a half hours of everything varied and ace does take a punch out of you, but was really cool to see everyone enjoying themselves. Its funny how Bon Jovi and Def Leppard can follow Pantera and Pink with a bit of Katy Perry! (achievement of the night = getting indie kids to dance to Korpiklaani). The venue digged it, there were plenty of drunk people and we had a good time (even though I’ve been attacked by sciatica! evil back).
The next night (19th) was the invasion of Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes. DJing again (zzz) but we had our dear buddies Patchwork Grace, Zen Motel and our new fiends The Mariana Hollow showcasing their stuff. With 250 strong rollergirls and fans it was packed!
The event at Earls Court itself was brilliant and a testament to the amount of hard work all of the rollergirls and sponsors put in. We can’t wait for Roll Britannia 2010.
In other gig news, we’re hosting New Generation Superstar’s London album launch in just a couple of weeks! It will be at The Gaff on the 31st July with Dead IDentities, Trippin Violet and the anticipated return of Renegade Playboys.
NGS new album ‘Raising The Stakes’ is even better than their debut album and you’ll see the review shortly. You can get tickets for the event for £5 from www.ticketweb.co.uk
Until then … the first ever Rawkcast will be popping up next week at some point so keep your peepers peeled and your ear to the web!”
