Electric Eel Shock get Bizarre!
Psycho-crazy Japanese hard rockers Electric Eel Shock have been confirmed to headline the main stage of the Bizarre Ball, 2009’s most decadent party, on Saturday October 17th at London’s SE1 Club at London Bridge, SE1 3QX.
Firmly established as the biggest and most important event on the alternative club calendar after 2008’s spectacularly successful, totally sold out, packed-to-the-rafters debut, The 2nd Bizarre Ball promises to be even more awesome.
The crew of the world’s biggest alternative culture publication, Bizarre Magazine, in association with Lucha Britannia, have lined up the most crazed cabaret of music, performance and freak show frippery ever gathered under one roof. Expect a vast range of the best selection of alternative performance and music over three stages, along with plenty of action around the venue to keep visitors’ jaws dragging on the floor all night long.
New this year is the ‘Steampunk’ stage, with a retrofuturistic Victoriana meets industrial wild contraptions theme, while the ‘Domination Corner’, where you can get your ass whipped by pro Dominatrices in front of a gasping crowd, has been upgraded and expanded to cater for demand.
The BIZARRE MAIN STAGE , hosted by Des O Connor, will be set alight by an avalanche of horrific / terrific performers who have been awarded Super Freak status by Bizarre in 2009, alongside an eclectic / electric live music programme.
Headliners Electric Eel Shock, whose brand new album ‘Sugoi Indeed’, is released on 12th October, will pull all the stops out to play a legendary, fittingly bonkers, awesome live show, preceded by legendary comedy genius Frank Sidebottom, who recently brought his huge, papier-mache head out of retirement.
The best lip-syncing troupe on the planet, The Lipsinkers, have cooked up a special one-off exclusive ‘heavy metal’ show, culminating in a full blown homage to AC/DC.
The Circus of Horrors, led by the irrepressible Dr Haze, will preview extracts of two gloriously gory all new shows they are taking to the road this autumn – ‘The Last Days Of The Asylum’ and ‘The Day Of The Dead’.
Jonny Woo, one of the hottest names in camp cabaret, has devised a brand new, totally bonkers exclusive eye-popping performance art show for the Bizarre Ball.
Fancy Chance, the reigning Alternative Miss World, will thrill with an exclusive burlesque performance, while Bizarre’s favourite showgirl Vivid Angel, returns to the main stage for a tsunami of vaudeville thrills and freak show chills.
Syban V, one of the youngest – and downright craziest – performers on the alt.cabaret scene, blends ballet, piercing and gore into a surreal theatrical show.
The Baron and Missy Macabre, will be ripping up the main stage with freak show thrills that will have one half of the audience roaring with laughter and the rest turning away in terror.
LUCHA BRITANNIA STAGE’s full size wrestling ring will boast a wicked blend of high flying Mexican Wrestling complemented by freak show thrills, vaudeville vixens and sexy Luchadoras, fire-breathing erotic dancers, angle grinders and tons of dangerous stunts that would make the Dirty Sanchez Boys wince.
The brand new STEAMPUNK ROOM is an industrial space that combines underground cabaret and Victoriana with modern technology, featuring steampunk raconteurs, steampunk burlesque acts and downright bonkers filthiness. Think brass bolts, copper cogs and ancient steam powered pistons, heaving whale bone bosoms and pervery beneath petticoats, but all punked up and funked up with a 21st-century industrial twist. To top it all Psycho Cyborgs, will playing their only British show of 2009, featuring suspensions, hardcore piercing, blood, gore and lots of powertools from Samppa Von Cyborg and his crew, for whom the word ‘pain’ has no meaning.
While there is no DRESS CODE as such, you can guarantee that most guests will dress to impress. Last year we saw a glittering array of Mad Max extras, military men, dominatrices, monster mashers, psycho doctors, debauched metallers, corseted beauties, latex lovelies and numerous Bizarre Ultra Vixens and Vipers. Organisers say; “Think fancy dress, fetish, rock’n’roll, mods, dandies, fops, wenches, leather, pirates, uniforms, militaria, medical, latex, furry, clowns, bikinis, weird, dark, colourful…but most importantly, FUN!”
