Nix’s Banter: ‘Rocking And A Rolling And A Rocking And A Rolling’ …
Editor Nix chats about the goings on in PR HQ …
“Happy New Year folks. 2010, ring the end of the noughties. Also rings in Pure Rawk’s 4th year of existence on the cybernet plane and what a ride its been so far! We have been privileged to hold some of the greatest releases of the past decade in our hands and have seen a fair few of the bands who have toiled the ‘toilet-stages’ of the UK have great success in this country and beyond.
2010 also brings the countdown to this year’s Pure Rawk Awards. The Awards voted by you, not a prat sat in a stuffy office or a public relations bod totalling up which bands will bring them the biggest cash payout for coverage (heck, it wouldn’t be us! We’re lucky to live on beans and toast). Its you. Just after Christmas you let us know, in force which bands you think should get votes. So much so, the record of 5k unique votes has already been broken. You’ve got until the 1st March 2010 to make your choices then you’ll just have to come along to the Purple Turtle on 20th March to find out who has won.
You might of noticed its been a bit quiet on the site for the past few weeks. Its been a time to reflect, do normal stuff and prepare for the things in store for the start of this year. 2009 was full of some great stuff and I’ve done a whole year for Total Rock radio. I even had a listen to one of my first shows back in 2008 and its funny what a little bit of confidence can do!
I’ve come across some lovely people, some odd people and some slightly rapey people. But somehow, I feel that 2009 was far too quiet. The latter half most certainly. A lot of venues and promoters suffered in 08/09 as a result of the knock on effect of that R word. The recession. Whether or not people clam up and hear that word or just didn’t bother going out and opt for larger gigs I’m not sure. So, lets change that this year. Go down to your local venue, regardless of whats on and have a listen. You may just find your next unknown gem. I did a few years back … now Pure Rawk exists as a result.
