Well, this is a record full of surprises. From the first track Lost Beyond Belief, you think you’ve got them pinned down as media-friendly modern rock/metal band, picking up hints of Nickleback and Foo Fighters and maybe Disturbed.
But with this lot it’s really not so simple. There’s moments of heavier metal stomp (Dominates Me), catchy punk (recent single Bad Days has a killer chorus) and plain old-fashioned dark shit (Death of a Rockstar Part 1) that reminds me of the Avenged Sevenfold’s more operatic album moments.
It does however fit together coherently, with the band picking up all these elements and wrapping them into their own vision and direction. Resisting the temptation to just sink into metal audio sludge that catches so many at this point, they manage to keep it mostly very accessible and on a rock n roll edge, all led by a distinctly Trent Reznor styled vocal delivery.
With their crossover appeal, I could see this lot getting on Kerrang TV and the like, whilst still keeping their grassroots fans. In fact, as I type this, I’ve just seen they are already on Kerrang TV. Nice one lads.
