EP Review: Nemhain – “The Murder Mile EP”
Ping! An alert lands in my Facebook inbox from the nice people at Nemhain saying that they’ve put out a free download-only EP as a taster for their forthcoming second album. Well, I’m never one to turn down a decent free gift and as someone who also resides close to the North London Murder Mile that Nemhain call home, this was always going to be on my listening list.
It’s quite a varied package which is always good – while opener “Natural Born Sinners” is an impressively tight tour de force which recalls under-rated mid-’80s Sunset Strip goth-rockers Hellion, “Seriously Ill” promptly turns the whole thing on its head by bludgeoning in on a woozy Kyuss style stoner rock riff as Amber Erlandsson snarls out the lyrics about alcohol abuse. “Love 4 Death” is another blood ‘n’ thunder speed-rocker but it’s the closing track that’s the real curio as they turn in a lurching seasick cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising”, turning it into one of the creepiest, most sinister things you’ll hear this year.
Definitely worth a listen then – you can judge for yourself at http://tiefdruck-musik.de/2011/08/11/nemhain-the-murder-mile-ep-free-download/
