Warner Music to close Roadrunner Records UK offices and huge cuts elsewhere
Sad times for rock and metal – Roadrunner Records is to call time on its European office.
This is allegedly in a money saving bid from the Warner Music Group. No details have currently been released as to how this will impact its current roster.
Kirsten Sprinks, publicist for RRUK commented on Twitter: “It’s true, we’re all out of a job. So it’s safe to say it’s truly a horrible day”.
The brand itself isn’t being laid off. Most roles and back-end functions are getting rolled into Warner Music Group, though there is talk of skeleton offices or some superficial presence in the various countries.
That said, this looks like a serious gutting. Sources also noted that CEO Cees Wessels is also packing his things, and in terms of a layoff count, Billboard estimates that 36 are being let go – with 16 in the US.
Warner Music Group has been a majority owner for many years, but became the sole owner late last year. Warner Music has not issued a release on the matter.
