EP Review: TesseracT – “Perspective”
Perspective see’s the first official release with new vocalist Elliott Coleman and comes as a great filler between albums. The idea of the album spawned from an acoustic session on tour in the states which gave a new ‘perspective’ to the songs. Additionally the EP serves well in introducing fans to the vocals of Elliott, which frankly, I find frankly quite stunning.
TesseracT were lucky to have found Dan, but are equally as lucky to have found Elliott, who reminds me of Cedric Bixler-Zavala (At The Drive In/The Mars Volta), Matt Bellamy (Muse) and Jeff Buckley – speaking of which, ‘Perspective’ gives us the first cover from the band, ‘Dream Brother’. An immaculate cover that fits so well into Tess’s sound, I think Jeff would be a fan!
So as mentioned the EP is acoustic, it is a retake on previous songs, so fans waiting for some modern songs will still have to wait. Recently I’ve not been listening to much metal so the EP has fit well into my current mood, the EP has a groovy vibe and has a larger presence of an ambient atmosphere than previous releases. A must for die hard fans and a why not for those looking to broaden their horizon and go for it if curiosity is taking over for something a little different.
