RIP Jon Lord
Lord was a co-founder of Deep Purple in 1968 and co-wrote many of the group’s songs including Smoke On The Water.
The BBC report that he had been receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer since last August. He died at the London Clinic on today, surrounded by family, a statement said. “Jon passes from Darkness to Light,” it added.
Endless numbers of musical colleagues have been paying tributes to the master of the Hammond organ and an established classical artiste.
‘Sabbath’s Geezer Butler commented: “One of the great musicians of my generation. Tony Iommi recently worked with Jon, and said what a lovely bloke he was. I met him a few times, but never got to work with him. Blessings.”
Steve Hackett tweets that Lord was “A very nice man who brought the worlds of classical and rock music closer together.”
