There you have it, Download have done it again. Rammstein have been announced as Download 2013‘s second headliner, joining yesterday’s announcement of Iron Maiden. But they had kind of let the cat out of the bag posting their Download appearance yesterday on their Facebook page. Oops! Like Soundgarden last year, these dates were apparently revealed by accident, and have since been removed from their page.
Metal Hammer published comments from Live Nation’s Andy Copping.“We’re very excited to welcome Rammstein to Donington for the very first time. They are an epic live act and a perfect Sunday headliner to cap off what is shaping up to be yet another fantastic Download festival.”
“It’s only a festival … not a moon landing,” adds Rammstein.
On a ‘Maiden note, Download will see Iron Maiden bring their Maiden England tour to Donington Park on the 25th anniversary of their first headline appearance.
Bruce Dickinson, the band’s lead singer, said: “We’re over the moon to be headlining Donington again. The idea of returning exactly 25 years later… was too good an opportunity to be missed.”
A new deposit scheme has been launched for 2013 which will allow festival-goers to pay in instalments for the first time.
This year’s event saw top-of-the-bill performances by Black Sabbath and Prodigy.
The 2013 event takes place on the weekend of June 14-16 with tickets going on general sale on September 28. Go to www.downloadfestival.co.uk for more.
