Answer – yup. Very much rooted in the Britrock sounds of the mid-’90s (think pre-shark jump Therapy?, Whatever, Kerbdog, 3 Colours Red etc), A Joker’s Rage have an impressively tight sound for such a new band with songs like “Masquerade” (which ushers itself in on a sinister music box sample before letting loose with the riffs), the doomy “Killing Time” and the Chilis style funk metal (yes, I know that’s normally a bad thing but fair play to ‘em for carrying it off quite well) of “In It For The Kicks” marking them out as having a versatility lacking in most of their peers.
Actually, the band this lot remind me of more than anyone are fellow northern Britrock upstarts Exit State. Quite possibly the two of them should look into getting some gigs booked together and giving the fans a good solid double dose of riffs and attitude. In the meantime, this is a promising start from these newcomers. Keep an eye on ‘em.
