Pure Rawk’s Tour News Round-Up #2
Yup, we know that was quick. As it happens though, the last couple of days has seen quite a few Pure Rawk approved bands announce touring plans so we thought we’d get in on the act quickly to cover it…
We start in Canterbury – not exactly the first choice for a rock ‘n’ roll mecca we know (although Diamond Head did name one of their albums after the place) but it seems Kent natives have actually got quite a few things to look forward to on the gig calendar. Not only are Obsessive Compulsive and Healthy Junkies playing a double header at the Lady Luck bar on 26th September but this Thursday (22nd August) sees rockabilly hell-kitties Viva Le Pink headlining a night of female-fronted rockabilly at the same venue. Frontwoman Missy Le Pink has apparently promised a free promo CD to anyone wearing pink at the gig plus there’s three other bands and burlesque acts. Sounds like it should be a good night. For those of you unable to get to Canterbury, you can also catch Missy and co supporting the Ricochets at the Boston Music Room on November 30th.
Also later this week, Southampton gloom-merchants the Lost Souls Club are up in London to play a gig at Hoxton Underbelly on Sunday 25th August. This lot are always well worth catching live so make sure you get down there – hopefully their new album should be along in the next few months.
More Jonny Cola and the A-Grades dates for you all – the group are now putting together a “sort-of-tour” (their words not ours) backing up their rather good new album “Spitfire”. Dates confirmed so far are:
4th September – The Lexington, Kings Cross (album launch party)
6th September – Harlow Square
12th September – Birmingham Unplug
28th September – Brighton Prince Albert
Another follow-up from the last Live Round-Up – Dogbones have been confirmed as main support for the Flesh For Lulu comeback gig at the Borderline on October 14th. This one is looking like it could be a pretty damn good show already.
South London’s most shambolic the Peckham Cowboys are making their return to the live arena this Friday (23rd August) supporting the Alabama 3 at Brixton Jamm. Bring yer livers of steel and enjoy…
Techno-rockers and Pure Rawk faves Stereo Juggernaut are back with a new line-up and new songs. You can catch them supporting the Mercy House at on 26th October with Dumbjaw and From The Ashes also on the bill. Welcome back lads.
For something a bit special, those of you who can make it to the 12 Bar Club in London on Saturday September 21st will be lucky enough to witness a rare acoustic set from ex-Jackdaw 4 and Honeycrack man Willie Dowling and Eureka Machines’ frontman Chris Catalyst with support coming from Givvi Flynn. This one is likely to sell out very quickly so make sure you get your tickets in asap.
Nottingham noisemongers JD & The FDC’s are back on the touring trail and you can catch them playing stuff from their highly recommended “Recognise” album at the following venues with rock ‘n’ roll swashbucklers the East Town Pirates.
26th September – Nottingham Tap & Tumbler
27th September – Derby Sitwell Tavern
28th September – Raunds Red Lion
29th September – Manchester Star & Garter
Finally, Halloween is on its way and with Alice Cooper not heading over to these shores this year (boo!) at least we have the next best thing in the form of an Evil Scarecrow tour coming up. Catch Robototron, Crabulon, Brian the Vampire and all the rest of the gang at the following venues:
28th September – Liverpool Lomax 1
5th October – Cambridge Portland Arms
25th October – Derby Hairy Dog
26th October – Keighley Exchange Arts Centre
30th October – Manchester Grand Central
31st October – Mansfield Intake Club
1st November – Boston Axe & Cleaver
9th November – Reading Face Bar
30th November – Nuneaton Queens Hall
7th December – Burnley Sanctuary
