EP Review: Modern Day Dukes – “PPPEP: The Return of The Beginning of The Revenge of Modern Day Dukes Vol 2”
The new EP from Yorkshire rock and roll types Modern Day Dukes picks up where there last one left off – with a whole bunch of riffs, hooks and attitude.
‘Opening track Whaddaguy’ has a huge chorus and ‘Like a Millionaire’ is a monster of a song that has been in existence since before the dawn of MDD, and one that turns up the attitude-ometer to 11 making them sound not unlike Backyard Babies.
On ‘Where’s You’re Gun?’ former ‘Duke’ El lends some of her best vocals to what is the high point of the EP. It’s on this track that the Dukes really show what they’re capable of and they reel off hook after hook with the chorus sounding particularly epic. A full electric version of ‘Sleeping With Skeletons’ from their previous EP make a surprise appearance and sounds excellent in it’s new guise and another ‘oldie’ closes the EP in the form of ‘Zenlimelight’, which sees the band channeling their inner KISS to marvelous effect.
'PPPEP: The Return of the Beginning of the Revenge of Modern Day Dukes Vol. 2' is an excellent collection of rock and roll songs and a strong return from Modern Day Dukes. Now they just need to get off their collective butts and record an album.
