Single Review: Last Great Dreamers – “Glitterball Apocalypse”
Last Great Dreamers were the great almost-weres of the late ’80s Soho glam scene, both in their first incarnation as The Silver Hearts, and under their current name. Currently gearing up for their third album (and their first collection of new material since reforming a few years ago), Glitterball Apocalypse is a good taster of what we can expect.
Powered along by a swinging T-Rex style drumbeat, this is the sound of a band taking their ’70s glam influences and putting a good 21st century spin on to drag it kicking and screaming into the current era. B-side The Way We Collide is a more fast-paced affair which sounds like The Lemonheads if they abandoned their slacker tendencies and discovered a latent love of The Sweet. Good stuff.
A good effort from these veterans which bodes well for the forthcoming album. If Last Great Dreamers can stretch this sort of form across a whole collection then they could be on to something good here. Bring it on.
