EP Review: Hell’s Gazelles – “Take Your Medicine”
You’ve gotta have some bollocks to go out with that moniker it has to be said! This young Oxford quartet certainly put on a decent live show and this, their second EP, is a big step forward both in sound and production from their debut. Sound wise, think a more melodic Judas Priest.
The lead track Give Me Something bemoans the meaning of life and kicks off the swear content, Stone Cold is about relationship breakups, Out Of Time examines faith. Whilst the best song of the five, although it brings Bon Jovi’s Bad Medicine to mind, is the EP’s title track with a great singalong chorus and catchy riffage that gets the head nodding. That just leaves the heaviest of the five tracks in the Gillan-esq She Devil, with the age old girl trouble lyric.
There’s some decent cover art too, even if it reminds one of Helloween’s Dr Stein!
If you're looking for some new talent I’ve certainly heard a lot worse than this lot, certainly worth keeping your eye on in the rocking stakes!
