Demo Review: Jezebel – Rock Star

Sexy Dave

Alright, I admit it, this lot have got me confused. I’ve been sent three different demos from them now over the last few years, and I really struggle to see the correlation between them. The first was decidedly underwhelming, the second I quite liked, and now they’ve sent me a third. Continue reading

Album Review: Ferocity Lights – Window Seat To Hell

Sexy Dave

Bubbling gently on London’s bar scene, and turning up as support band every now and then, Ferocity Lights have been seeping more and more into my consciousness over the last year or so. With increasingly regularity, I’ve been waking up with their demos in my pocket. And now, they’ve sent us this rather fine little album. Continue reading

Album Review: The Loyalties – So Much For Soho

Sexy Dave

So Much For Soho - out now(ish)! In a terrible accident, probably late at night and involving beer some time in 2008, The Loyalties’ debut album disappeared down the back of the sofa at Pure Rawk HQ. Whilst pursuing a lost peanut however, it was rediscovered several years later, and frankly it’s a bloody good album. Now, with The Loyalties rumoured to be resurfacing this autumn, so it seems a good time to finally review it. Continue reading

EP Review: Skintight Jaguars – The Death of Rock and Roll

Sexy Dave

By their own admission, London’s Skintight Jaguars haven’t been up to all that much of late. But in some uncharacteristically frenzied recording sessions recently, they’ve finally laid down some tracks to follow up 2007’s debut album, The Curse. Continue reading

EP Review: The Deadly Romantics – “Do You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll?”

Andy James

This is one of those moments where I’m struggling to work out whether this EP is the best or worst thing I’ve heard this month. Basically, imagine if you gave four Zodiac Mindwarp fans a budget of about £7.50 or so, a crate of Stella, some cheap ‘n’ nasty speed and told them to go and record four tracks.

EP Review: Engrained – “Anger, Roots and Rock ‘n’ Roll”

Andy James

Hey Exploited fans! Bit bored with music lately? Gallows not quite doing it for you? Looking for something suitably fast, nasty and ugly that you can headbang that mohawk to? I think I may have just found the thing for you.

Album Review: Trash Gallery – “Trash Gallery”

Andy James

There’s few things more frustrating when you’re a music reviewer than coming across a band who have all the right ideas but are just frustratingly short of really getting it right.

Album Review: Mama Kin – “In The City”

Andy James
Sometimes you can tell how a CD is gonna go just by looking at it. Take this one for example – the cover has four long-haired tattooed dudes in Max Factor and spandex lounging by a pool – you’d be pretty correct in assuming we’re in sleaze rock central here. Thing is…it ain’t too bad.

EP Review: SexMess – “Check This Shit Out”

Andy James

The initial signs for this one were NOT good – the cover of this EP shows five blokes who really do fall into the “brickies in lippy” school of glam metal. Yet give it a chance and it’s a pleasant surprise.

Album Review: The Glitterati – “Are You One Of Us?”

Nix

The Glitz’ scallywags earned themselves a fine reputation for lust-filled sleaze rock songs from their previous self titled effort a few years ago. Then they disappeared into the ether. However, this second album, Are You One Of Us? will firmly re-establish their intentions to be the capital’s finest rock n’ roll band.
