Status Quo’s Parfitt suffers suspected heart attack

rickparfittIn the early hours of Wednesday 15 June 2016 following the Status Quo gig at Expo2016 in Antalya, Turkey, Rick Parfitt suffered a suspected heart attack.

He is being treated in a hospital in Turkey and whilst his condition is serious, he has already demanded his customary cup of tea with two sugars and a sweetener.

The band had already agreed to perform at the Rock On Windermere charity show on Saturday 18th June to raise funds for the Cumbria Flood Appeal.  Rick and the band did not want to cancel this important show, and so it will go ahead with Freddie Edwards, the son of Quo bassist John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, stepping in for Rick.  It is likely that Freddie will stay with the band to allow them to honour their commitments and not let down the fans up to and including the show on Sunday 3 July at Gröna Lund Tivoli, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Simon Porter, the band’s manager said, “No further comment will be made at this stage until the completion of the next round of tests and assessments to be made over the next few days.  We would ask you to respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”

Hevy Fest have called it a day.

The organisers of Port Lympne festival, Hevy Fest have released a statement on the cancellation of the event, which would have entered it’s seventh year had it gone ahead this year.

“After 6 years of incredible bands, legendary hangs, and a lot of monkeys – we’re sorry to announce that Hevy Fest is pulling the plug.

Despite the best efforts of our dedicated team, the festival has become financially untenable. Many things have contributed: Port Lympne being unable to continue hosting the event, the increasingly difficult task of putting together a line-up with more and more exclusives enforced each year leading to difficulties confirming our final headliner, and the pressure to offer good value with spiralling costs. The odds are stacked against anyone taking on the challenge, and they have proven too great for us to overcome.

There is a great community of Hardcore, Punk and Metal supporters in the UK and we hope that other small festivals will be able to grow into this space, and to deliver the event we aspired to.

Ticket holders will be automatically refunded. All monies will be returned in the next 10 working days (including booking fees and postage).

As a small independent event, we want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years.”

You can this statement confirmed on their official website hevyfest.com.

20150226-dsc_1424Placebo will be taking to the road again, hitting the UK and Ireland in December as they will be performing a setlist of classics as well as forgotten treasures spanning the bands 20 year back catalogue. In a press statement, Brian Molko revealed:

“Let’s just say there will be songs in the set that I’ve sworn never to play again. I think it’s time that we purposefully acknowledged what a lot of Placebo fans really want to hear. They’ve been very patient with us since we rarely play our most commercially successful material.  A 20 year anniversary tour seems like the right time to do so. That’s our intention. This tour is very much for the fans and a chance for us to revisit a lot of our early material. So, if you want to see us play songs like ‘Pure Morning’ and ‘Nancy Boy’ which we haven’t played in almost ten years and may not play again, then you’d better come along to these shows! We’ll have some surprises in there too.”
