Mixing together music of wildly differing genres is a tricky business. For every band like the Eureka Machines who are capable of taking a very unlikely set of influences and mixing them together to create something genuinely special, there’s a group of people who try the same trick and get it quite horribly wrong.
I first encountered Raising Sand at a gig promoted by our esteemed ed Nix a few months ago and was impressed by them. Sufficiently so that when the option of giving this album a review came up at the most recent Pure Rawk staff meeting/drinking session, I jumped at the chance.
Alright, I admit it, this lot have got me confused. I’ve been sent three different demos from them now over the last few years, and I really struggle to see the correlation between them.
